Hot elf action

Well, I have been prevented from playing in the last two tournaments I had scheduled by real life events. Family and whatnot take priority. And now I am working on some Eldar for a team tournament at one of the local game stores. I have had time to play one game with my partner.... I knew that the Avatar wasn't too competitive with the build we had, he was unsupported. But it also turns out it is not fun to feed your opponent one of your HQs and gain nothing from it. So We quickly came up with a plan...I will build a Farseer on a jetbike instead. The anti psyker defense and divination powers will make it valuable.

So, two guys who played Deathwing and Space Wolves last year are playing Eldar and Dark Eldar. With one game under our belt, our confidence has been raised, um, a little. The game was pretty much a tie. We were not doing well at all until some dire avengers got some good bladestorms to cripple a flyrant and the swarm lord. Falcons and raiders then made short work of them. But what helped was the game going for 7 turns. Incubi and an archon pulled gaunts off of objectives and allowed avengers to claim them. They also killed a unit holding the relic with a very good charge roll. Since we had first blood and slay the warlord, we technically won 16vp to 15vp. But we were outplayed almost the entire time and faced one guy running a whole team. So truthfully, we got lucky and hung in when we should have lost pretty bad. But we learned, and we will now be better prepared with a few alterations. Most importantly runes of warding....rather than just take what the psychic choir was giving us!

So I came back from my game Saturday and found the pieces I needed to build a jetbike Farseer. I built it that night, and on Sunday I got the base colors on it and the vipers. I only have this week to go, so I have to finish the base colors on one falcon and base everything before possibly moving on to detail work. Last year out paint score prevented us from winning 1st or 2nd, I can't remember. Either way, we could have gotten a prize. We decided to focus on at least having the armies painted!

I will expand on my Eldar in the weeks to come as I focus on having them ready for kind of a big tournament at the end of January. But that is a tale for another time...

I have been undone!

Well, I'm not playing in a tournament on the 2nd. I guess my family had other plans, which includes me hanging out with my 2 year old daughter. Which I would do any day over a tournament. Either way, we'll still find our way into a game store at some point on the weekend. Would it be weird if a guy and his toddler went to a steakhouse alone?

Anyway, now I'll work on my Eldar. I'll be using them in a team tournament on the 15th. Had I known that the 2nd was a bust, then I wouldn't have bothered painting Wolfguard. Well, at least I need them for Adepticon. So the next two weekends will be spent getting the few models I need up to tabletop standards. Here's what I've got to get done.

-Forgeworld Avatar
-12 Dire avengers
-3 Vipers
-2 Falcons

I'll be using 5 pathfinders that my team mate is going to let me use. He'll be using Dark Eldar, some ravages, raider, and archon badness. Out strategy is going to be fast, shooty, and deadly. Well, my rice is done, I'm out.

It's all over but the basing.

Warning: shitty pictures.

Getting ready for a tournament on Dec.2nd. Didn't get up to GB for the team tourney so I'm going to play my 1000pt list with an extra 850pts that mimic someone else on the team. So pretty much thunderwolves, longfangs, and a runepriest. Some troops too, whatever. I'm fluffily obligated to play with Wolfguard terminators, and I'd like a fully painted army....so that's why I ditched the Grey Knights. It's a story driven tournament that picks up where another last one left off. My "Sons of Fenris" Wolfguard terminators had some great game that added to the overall story of the last event. So you see, I have to bring them to keep the asskicking going. Basically, each table in the tournament is a planet in the sector. They all have their own special rules like low gravity or no atmosphere, stuff like that. At the end of the game, the winner decides if he wants to stay on the planet or leave. Staying means there's a good chance you continue to play with the battlefield conditions, but may influence the overall story.

As I pulled out my painted terminators for inventory to build a list, I realized that almost none of them had been built for points efficiency. Enter black reach terminators and a fistful of Wolfguard bitz... Over the course of the holiday (Thanksgiving) weekend I assembled and painted 6 Wolfguard terminators and a Runepriest. Sadly, the model I used for the runepriest was the generic librarian in terminator armor. I did a few swaps for some plastic space wolf pieces, but neglected to do anything with the head. Not a problem at first until you notice he has a baby-face. Hopefully the 5 o'clock shadow I gave him with badab black gives him a hard edge the Viking theme seems to promote in the army.

My list...
First 1000pts

Runepriest termy

8 Wolfguard termies
-assault cannon
-2 combi meltas
-combi plasma
-2 power fists

8 Grey hunters with drop pod
-meltagun
-wolf standard
-power axe
-mark of the wulfen

8 Grey hunters in a rhino
-Same as the other unit.

6 Longfangs
-5 missile launchers

My extra 850 point list

Runepriest with runic armor
-master of runes

8 Bloodclaws in rhino
-power weapon
-flamer

5 Thunderwolf Cavalry
-power fist
-storm shield
-bolter(Because I still have them modeled for 5th Ed. wound allocation.)

5 Fenrisian wolves
-Cyberwolf

6 Longfangs
-5 missile launchers

This leaves me with 17 points. Maybe I'll throw in another blood claw if I have the model. My plan is to give the master of runes biomancy and try to get endurance. That way I can cast it on the thunderwolves to give them FNP and "it will not die". The Fenrisian wolves are also to shadow the thunderwolves and absorb as much overwatch for them as they can. The termy runepriest will take divination to pump up the big terminator unit he's going to be in. I may peel off a combi melta terminator to accompany the grey hunters in a drop pod. The idea is to play aggressively.

We'll see how this all works out. I don't plan to win many games, but I still need to play with confidence. If nothing, it may throw my opponent off. Like I'll be making bunch of wrong moves and he may think I've got some insane strategic plan. While in reality, I'm really just jacking up my game.

Work work work

Well my computer broke. The upside is that I've spent much more time at the hobby desk. My avatar is assembled and I've settled on a paint scheme for my Grey Knights. Coteaz has also been painted in the same grey armor. The regular metallic of the army left much to be desired. Sadly it took me getting the base colors on ten terminators to realize this. By chance I had purchased a grey knight strike squad for bitz when they were released. After some creative modeling, I've got a purgation with four incinerators. I plan to run them in the storm raven for fun. I am also currently working on henchmen for Coteaz. Basically warriors with plasma and bolters to ride in a chimera. I'd like to find some arbites with riot shields and power mauls to use as crusaders. I'd use them in the storm raven. The more I listen to podcasts and build models, the better my understanding of how to get what I want out of 6th edition and the grey knight codex. Sadly, I am only taking Draigo right now for command abilities and paladin troops. I plan to use some combat squad shenanigans to get four psilencers with Coteaz. Combine that with divination psyker powers and I have a unit to face daemons with. I've got a practice game this weekend, so I'll see just how well they do. After that, it's back to space wolves for a team tourney on the 17th. And after THAT, it's a tourney with my GK on the 2nd of December. My goal is to hit both with a fully painted force. Although I am far more excited to get the GK painted.

Draigowing over Loganwing

I like terminators.  I like customizable terminators.  I like the see just how many I can fit into an army list.  While playing Space Wolves the last few years, I have been slowly building a Wolfguard army of terminators.  Along came the new 'Cron codex and I trade my Necron army for a Draigo Paladin army.  Now comes 6th edition and my entire understanding of the game of 40K is altered.  I have a chance to start fresh with a new army and continue to build old ones or pet projects as allies.  I want terminators, and I will have them.  Although now I am going with Grey Knights.  I've played  the last tournament with Logan, Draigo, Paladins, Wolfguard, and regular GK termies.  I like how the GKs play.  And here's why....

    Draigo VS Logan
-Both benefit the troops.
-Both are tough in assault.
-Draigo is only AP3.
-Logan has less wounds and a worse invuln.
So to me, Draigo barely wins out.

GK terminators VS Wolfguard terminators
-At about 250pt per unit, they are pretty similar.
-Assault cannon is weaker than Psycannon.
-GK stormbolters are usually upgraded to str5
-GK have psychic powers while WG have counterattack.
-GK terminators are troops naturally.
The GK have a little of an edge, although the WG can be upgraded with some great wargear if you're willing to pay the inflated costs.

Grey Knights have paladins while SW can get multiple runepriests.  But as I've played the GK, Paladins have time and time again survived some of the nastiest odds.  And with Draigo, they are troops.  GK can also get a Stormraven....For the time being, Grey Knights win out for me.  Daemons are a hot army right now, and I'd like to think the army designed to fight them should be a better choice.  Now, I've got to find a way to get Coteaz in a unit with 4 psilencers....Yeah, that's going to happen.

As I begin to work on models for an upcomming tourney, I am excited to come up with strange units of inquisitorial henchmen.  I need to use Coteaz, but I think he's awesome anyway.  The henchmen warbands are a source for some uniquely equiped units.  Something I don't think most people even care to spend the time looking into.  And again, underlying everything, I own two vindicare assassins!  How awesome is that?!  Well, being unique, not as awesome, but still pretty damn cool!
I'll update some pics of my painting progress and a tentative list once I flesh it out and finish actually building the army.  Now...I've got to find a Coteaz model.

Much needed insight

I had a great time at my local tournament champioinship.  I got lucky and slipped in and played to have fun.  I think I had the right idea as I had a blast playing some of my favorite opponents and getting familiar with 6th edition.  It took me a few games to get the cobwebs knocked out, but I got better as the day went on.  I won only one game, but the lessons I learned were well worth it.  I really like how my Grey Knights played.  So it's hard for me to decide which way to go as I get into 6th edition.  Eldar and Grey Knights were the armies I've aquired and I'm bouncing between them.  I think as a solution, I will play GK with Eldar allies.  They ally with them as easily as Space Wolves, so I'm pretty pumped for the prospect.

Anyway, here's a quick synopsis of how my tournament went.

Round 1-Chaos Daemons
Played a very tough opponent with 25 Screamers.  They were no joke, and when Fateweaver backed them up, it was game over for me.  I was tabled by the top of turn 4.  I went second, so that means it only took 3 turns(with the choice of his secondary wave) to crush me.  I was pretty discouraged to say the least.

Round 2-Chaos Daemons
Played a friend of mine, so I was pretty thrilled however the game was going to go.  I faced Fateweaver, a Bloodthirster, and 3 daemon princes.  We played the Relic mission out of the BRB.  Logan drop podded in to take the relic right away.  Flamers came in, killing 4 grey knights, only to die to my massed fire.  Logan took a daemon prince in single combat in a few turns while Fateweaver attacked the flank of my forces.  A lone Grey Knight termy grounded him and Draigo took the oportunity to assault the greater daemon.  Logan finished the prince just in time to face a Bloodthirster in single combat.  He fought the fiend to a standstill in the first round, trading wounds.  With a ton of luck, Logan held the beast at bay.  After he fell, his few remaining Wolfguard terminators held it for a little longer.  It was all just enough to allow Draigo to finally banish the Fateweaver and snatch the relic with his Paladins.  So there the game stood....Draigo and his paladins surrounded by two Daemon Princes and a Bloodthirster.  In the 5th turn, the game continued.  The daemons assaulted, tying Draigo up in single combat with a Deamon Prince.  The Paladins managed to banish a wounded Nurgle Prince and lost two of their number to the rage of the Bloodthirster.  Once again, the game continued for a 7th turn!  Draigo fought on, and a lone Paladin with the relic faced the thirster.  Looking at 3 wounds causing instant death, the faith of Emperor saw him through it!  The game ended in an epic duel.

Round 3-Necron
Another good game, to which I learned much tactically.  Mindshackle scarabs ended up taking both Logan and Draigo!  I got greedy and took all of the objectives rather than just playing to the scenario.  Without a consolidated force, my right flank was completely destroyed.  3 flyers came in and disgorged their deadly cargo.  Had I remained back, I would have hade one whole turn to try and deal with the reserves.  they came into the game late and it ended two turns after they did.  The Paladins did end up driving up the left side into the 'Cron territory and taking the objective.  They may have lost Draigo, but they took the Lord and Wraiths down with their force weapons.  3 of them remained to hold the objective in the face of nearly all of the Necron firepower for 2 turns.  The Apothecary was the last one left standing when the game ended.  This was the first game that I actually made a FNP save.  And it began a trend that my Paladins were usually the only unit I'd end games with.  Those guys are no joke, they bring it hard.

Round 4-Chaos Marines
Still uding the old codex, I faced Abaddon and allied daemons.  I was surprised to see a Bloodthirster over Fateweaver...but in the end, it didn't matter.  Unaware the Despoilers daemon weapon was now AP2 instead of AP3, I dropped Logan right in his face for a showdown.  It ended about as expected.  Draigo was a little delayed with a failed assault, but he eventually made it there.  At the end of the game, I realized I should have been just playing to the mission,  I lost, but threw a hail-mary for a possible win.  Abaddon hid from Draigo, but the Paladins and their lord took an objective instead or chasing after him.  A few Knights assaulted, consolidated, and contested another objective.  Plaguebearers missed a deepstrike for their objective.  But it was the lash prince who foiled my plans by pulling Draigo and company out of scoring at the last moment.  The big lesson here was that no matter what happens, I must play to the mission.  I made a mistake by dropping Logan after Abaddon.  They smoked two Obliterators with combi-meltas, but it was not worth it.  Taking an objective would have been the best choice for them.

Overall, I learned a lot about being competative in 6th.  I need to play the mission, rather than kill my opponent's army.  And I have to consolidate my force to allow them to support one another.  I Threw away Logan in every game, one of which actually worked.  Now, I look forward to putting together a few more Eldar models before I play any games.  This is going to be fun.....

Okay, breaktime over

It's been a long two months since I've done anything with 40K.  I don't really have a proper hobby area so it's been difficult to keep enthusiasm up.  And it seemed the only games I got to play were tournaments.  Either way, it wasn't fun, and I don't spend time on hobbies that aren't fun.  Although I have been playing a lot of Space Hulk in my off-time.

Adepticon 2013 approaches.  Very shortly I will be signing up for classes and tournaments.  The Rider's on the Storm shall, well, ride again.  Which means prep work for the team tourney will begin soon.  We've got a theme from last year we are continueing with, so all we have to do is hammer out the detail.  I will also be involved with the Gladiator is seems.  It's a bit vague now, but it'll be fun.  Adepticon has a new format.  and with what I'm already dedicated to, I've only got Thursday free it seems.  I hope to get some master painting classes and pretty much nothing else.  Maybe green-stuff.  No tactics though.  6th edition is too new and I don't believe I will learn anything I won't find out in the next year anyway.

As it turns out, I am able to play in the local 40K invite-only championship.  It seems the two games of the series I played in were enough to get me a good place....that and about 10 people couldn't show up.  So yay me!  With a week and a half to prepar, I cannot take this seriously.  That being said I am bringing terminators.  Grey Knight with Space Wolf allies.  They won't even be fully painted.  3 color minimum, but nowhere near being done.  I may post pics when I finish them eventually...  Anyway, here's the army list I'm bringing.  I'm curious to see if I get complaints about it's format.

Well, back to work for now I guess...

Look up in the sky(claw)!

Well, I've finished building my skyclaws.  It was my goal to get them assembled before I move this weekend.  As of yet, I will have no hobby desk my next week.  Luckily, I've got a corner that I can set my stuff up....once I get a desk.  In all their glory, my pimped out skyclaws...

Ten skyclaws with a power axe and mark of the wulfen upgrade.  There are still some bitz and bobs that I plan to add to give them more Space Wolf pizzaz.  The majority of the models are still vanilla assault marines, but a few details and a good coat of paint and it won't matter.  The mark of the wulfen skyclaw is still pretty bare.  I really need to set him apart.

The Wolfpriest will also be equiped with runic armor for a 2+ save, plasma pistol, and probably a wolftail talisman.  His purpose is to protect the unit and help them come to grips with the enemy.  An excellent save combined with a 2+ "lookout sir" means about 35 regular wounds should be turned aside.  6+ deny the witch AND a 5+ talisman save gives them a descent ammount of anti-psycher protection.  The only way they could be better is if I added a runepriest and battle leader/wolflord.  But the cost would make them too inefficient.

Coming in at about 430 points total, they will be used as another hammer unit.  My hope it that the drop pod terminators will take some heat off of them for the first turn.  With the new transport rules, I think these guys will get an assault much faster than any other unit in my army.  The plasma pistols on the characters should really help eliminate those pesky power weapons with precise shots.  And two marks of the wulfen can put a huge hurt on any unit.  Prefered enemy infantry and fearless will go a long way in helping the 3 WS and BS of the claws.  I am looking forward to running these guys.  As of yet I have never seen skyclaws on the table.  People say they use them, but not in tournaments it seems.

6th edition is already looking pretty exciting.  My next Space Wolf project?....objective markers.  Now with hidden values, a little work has to be put in to create six unique markers with hidden point costs.  Here's a hint...there will be magnets used.

Gunslinger Werewolf?!

So yesterday(or the day before?) I came up with the super expensive wolfguard to add some spice to the skyclaws I'm building.  I thought it was a pretty unique idea and contemplated how a wolfguard would come to be equiped in such a way.  Because, let's face it, he's literally a gunslinging werewolf.  The idea is pretty comical and almost laughable.  But the more I think about it, it gets more badass.  I haven't come up with a name for him yet, but I think he'll create some memorable moments in the games to come.

Fackin' busy

I have been working a shitload of overtime and generaly being lazy when I'm not.  I had finished my aegis defence line for the tourney on the 21st....
I did much better than anticipated.  I got 5th out of 20, even after I realized I understood the rules much less than I had previously thought.  Here is the list I ended up going with...

I learned a lot, and have been driven to try and take advantage of a few of the changes.  Wound alocation for one.  I bore witness to some terrible things...  I will have to put all other hobby projects on hold though, as I am moving in a few weeks time.  So all I am working in will be my new unit for 6th edition.  I am going with skyclaws with a wolfguard and wolfpriest attached.  The wolfpriest will have runic armor and a plasma pistol.  The wolfguard will have TWO plasma pistols and mark of the wulfen.  Yeah, that guy's going to cost 78 points.  Lemme explain my thought process on this one...

-Precise shot will make the plasma have a chance of sniping imprtant models in units.
-Preferred enemy infantry will allow me to re-roll those pesky 1's for plasma.
-The skyclaws will also have mark of the wulfen, for maximum rending fun.
-I will put the wolf priest up front to use his 2+ armor save.  And when I fail one?  "Lookout sir" on a 2+.  It is cheesy as shit, but will help them live longer.
-Hammer of wrath is a bump for assault troops.
-I don't have to worry about how/when I can assault with the new transport rules.  It seems that no matter what, you have to wait a turn and take your lumps before assault.  Which makes the units that should be used for that now better.

I've also came up with an idea how to pop off heads from plastic models.  I had a grey knight head that I wanted to change.  Rather than using a pin vice and pliers to pull if out bit by bit, I came up with this...

I simply drilled a hole through the head, threaded wire into it, and pulled it right off.  The whole thing came right out.  It was so damned easy.  Well, I have to get back to building skyclaws.  I want them assembled before I have to begin packing.

Just about done

Almost finished with my tournament prep for the 21st.  I've just finished my wolfpriest and assault cannon terminator.  It shouldn't take me no more than a few nights to finish the aegis line and quad autocannon.

As mentioned before I have also picked up some grey knights.  I've begun to prep one of the units to sharpen up the detail and re-base them.  The initial colors and value scale of the non-metalic paint look pretty good.  I think I'll use this project to try some new techniques.  Hopefully with a little work I will have another fully painted army that's got my own mark.

I've seen some stuff, and done some things.

Holy crap, I've been busy.  A lot of work and a lot of hobby time, plus a little left over for sleep and family.  The tourney I was preparing for went from 2000pt 5th ed. to 1500pt 6th edition.  Oh yeah, 6th edition came out.  It's not as close as 4th and 5th were.  In fact, there are many elements that remind me of old 2nd edition.  I haven't played a game yet, but I've read through the rules once and have begun to pick up on the subtle nuances of them.  FAQ's are out for the codexes and much of my hobby time has been spent studying rather than painting.  I'm not going to review the new edition because...I'm lazy and I don't want to.  I'm just going to go over what I now plan to bring to my first 6th edition tournament.

My 2000pt list had everything but the kitchen sink, so I am very glad to be playing smaller games.  With the new flyer and fortification rules, I've had to plan for the worse.

HQ-a simple wolfpriest to attach to my bloodclaws.

Elites-Terminators with an assault cannon and a little bit of everything else...in a drop pod...duh.
-Wolf scouts with a meltagun to keep people on their toes.

Troops-My usual two units of 8 grey hunters.  The bloodclaws are going without Lukas this time.  the wolfpriest is a cheaper replacement.  But now with the character challenge rules...he has gotten pretty cool.  I will probably be playing him again in 1850 lists.

Heavy-Standard two units of missile longfangs.  One will be riding in a las/plas razorback.

Fortification-Aegis defense line with a quad autocannon.  I believe this will help me with flyers and give me a place to camp my longfangs.

Now, I've taken out my wolfguard with frostblades for the troop units.  I had made the list and forgotten to put the termies in a drop pod.  So rather than worry if the frostblade is an axe or sword, I got the pod and the razorback.  I think the added firepower and the aegis line with give my longfangs a little more punch.

I'm almost done with the wolfpriest and assault cannon terminator.  And I had the aegis line for months.  I'm glad I picked it up in hopes of making terrain out of it.  Oh yeah, and I've got a grey knight paladin army to personalise.  But thatis a tale for another day...

July 21st Tourney

Getting ready for a 2000pt tourney with roughly the same list.  I've gotten a lot of building done in the last week as well.  I kept most of my list the same from the last tourney with a few changes to make it more competititve.  I figure I've got to do a little better than middle of the pack in the next few rounds to have a chance in the top 16.

HQ
-Wolfpriest with termy armor, combi-melta, and wolftail talisman
-Wolfpriest without any upgrades

ELITE
-4 terminators including Arjac.  Mixed wargear and drop pod
-3 Wolfguard with frostblades
-Wolfscouts with meltagun

TROOP
-Grey Hunter packX2  Same old pack I always run
-8 Blood claws with power weapon and flamer in rhino.  No Lukas this time

FAST ATTACK
-4 Thunderwolves with one storm shield and one meltabomb
-2 landspeeders with multi meltas

HEAVY SUPPORT
-Longfangs with missiles X2

I replaced Lukas in the Blood Claws with a wolfpriest to save points and make the unit stronger in assault.  Bjorn was dropped for a simple termy wolfpriest to go with Arjac's unit.  I had originaly chosen Grimnar, but I figured he'd be too many points and overkill in the unit.  Arjac and the priest should be able to handle themselves in most situations.  The landspeeders will add some heavy anti tank along with the wolf scouts.

My Eldar Corsairs army is slowly coming together as well  I've got my first Falcon and most of my Viper done.  Five more Vipers and two more Falcons to go.  My plan is to have the army fully assembled before I really paint anything.  I'd like to playtest them if any drastic changes are needed.

I've also gotten a treat from ebay in the mail....
I can't wait to start on the Avatar.  I have no real plans to run one, but I love monstrous creatures and it is a pretty badass model.
This next tournament will be the last 5th edition one I play.  My 6th edition copy is already pre-ordered, and I'll probably spend a whole weekend reading through it.  I'm not looking forward to it, not because of any rumors, but because I'm lazy.  Rumors are useless to debate, we'll all get the book at the same time, and I've got better things to do with my time/energy.  Now...to get painting.  I've got a wolfpriest and speeders to finish.  I may cook up some skyclaws instead of the speeders....but that's a completely different can of worms.

UPDATE:  The tourney will probably be played with 6th ed. rules.  No big deal, now I've got a real drive to understand them faster and thoroughly.

June 16th tourney done!

Well, the tournament went well.  I came out middle of the pack in overall points.  Although I didn't play as hard as I could have in the last round.   I was pretty sloppy on strategy and just playing for fun.  I tied for best painted with two other players, so with the cost of lunch and the tourney I probably came out $5 ahead!  Here's a copy of my list...
I focused on the unique characters as I played, for more of a Space Wolf theme.

1st round- Ultramarines!
Pretty standard list, Vulcan and termies in a land raider were the big targets.  The scenario had 3 objective in a no-man's-land.  Driving fast or running caused dangerous terrain in no-man's-land, just to spice up the game.  And one of the three objectives would be worth twice as much, determined randomly at the beginning of the 5th round.  We tied, but I had a bit more battle points.  I had all three objectives until the end, That's when Vulcan finally decided to show up with a unit of marines and kick my already bloody grey hunters off of an objective.  And it would only make sense that the objective they took turned out to be worth twice as much.
-Bjorn: Hung around the middle of the board, then took out a unit of terminators as they deep struck in.
-Arjac: Droped in and failed to hit with his hammer.  The combi meltas also failed to do anything to the land raider.  But they took no casualties and went on to claim that raider, a vindicator, a razorback, and a combat squad as the game went on.
-Lukas: Stayed in the middle of the board and ended up claiming the center objective.  Nothing flashy, just worked toward winning.

2nd round Blood Angels!
Razordback list with Mephiston.  5 objectives, pretty simple scenario, dawn of war deployment...hell on my longfangs.  I won but we tied on battle points.  By first turn it looked grim, but almost everything turned out for me in my third shooting phase.
-Bjorn: Imobilized right away, took a lot of firepower.  Ended up destroyed, but close enough to another objective that I could claim two with the same unit.
-Arjac: Showed up and killed a land raider...then got taken out my furious charging, FNP termies.(Mephiston too)
-Lukas: Sacrificed his whole unit to get close to Mephiston and stasis bombed him.

3rd round Codex Marines.
Bike captain, two land raiders, termy libby.  Kill points...simple enough, extra points for killing marked HQs.  I lost, but got a few points.  I deployed my longfangs terribly, and advanced with my fenrisian wolves for whirlwind fodder.  Neither were good ideas.
-Bjorn: Didn't do much until he moved up to engage the enemy.  Firt lascannon shot blew him up...typical.  He would end up costing me 3 killpoints in the end.
-Arjac:  Droped in and scattered 11 inches back....fisrt roll of the game and it only went downhill from there.  They died without causing a casualy I believe.
-Lukas: Sacrificed his unit to stasis bomb the bike captain, giving me my only battle points.

Overall I like how Arjac played.  I'll probably keep him.  Bjorn was a toss up, probably only play him on special occasions.  And Lukas did well if It wasn't for the fact that I have to sacrifice a 325 point troop choice almost every game...

Here are the finished models I was working on before the tourney.  I stayed up until 5am getting Arjac done.

The next one is July 21st.  2000pts and the last 5th edition tourney.  I'm already signed up and I think I'm going to try and be a bit more competative.  I've got some list changes and some stuff I might need to build....

This weekend I've got a tournament that I have not really prepared for.  I use tournaments to get a new unit or cool character painted.  I've got a pretty good track record of getting best painted, but I don't feel it's fair if I don't continuously add a new unit every time I play.  I'm using my wolves again and have a small pack of Fenrisian Wolves that haven't seen the tabletop.  I had painted them for the last tourney, but ended up missing it.  For this one, it seems characters will play somewhat of a role with the theme.  My list includes Bjorn and Lukas, but I've been itching to play Arjak.  I've got the model but other things have gotten in the way of me puting any work into it.  I vow to get the model done in the next few days doing whatever it takes.

So far I've cleaned up the finecast and used hot water to straighten out the hammer.  Mico airbubbles aside, it looks pretty cool.  As he's a badass character, I used a chunk of plaster and made a piece of rubble for his base.  After some runes and a little knot work, the slap of concrete looks pretty good.  A quick primer and basecoat are all I've gotten done last night, but I'm off to a good start.  Tonight I hope to finish all base colors and washes.  I think that's a pretty descent goal I can attain.

My theme:  Eldar corsairs!  I wanted to make an army that wasn't like the typical Eldar.  Something darker and scarrier...that weren't Dark Eldar.  Now, a smidge of history on me....I don't like elves or eldar.  I've always been more into dwarves rather than flimsy elves.  But all things change and it was either Eldar or Tau.  I'm not building an army to dominate, it's a hobby project too.  I do play tournaments and play to win, but having the best army isn't my goal...just the coolest army.
Customized builds and a unique paintjob is my goal.  I'd love to sculpt all of the hair myself, but I think I'm going to give up and use DE heads.  I will build and cast unique bases for the army though.  That's a requirement.  Well, I need to get a list together to get an idea of what bitz I need.
Long story short, I get far too many hobby ideas and cannot (or will not) budget my hobby time to complete many of them.  I have played 40K for about 12 years, starting with generic Space Marines.  After a few years I moved on to Chaos Marines because most of the gamers in my circle playe "good guy" armies.  Someone has to play the bad guys...and Chaos is pretty bad ass.  When the 4th edition Chaos codex came out I switched to Necron.  They seemed the ultimate adversary and I really got into the eldritch horror aspect of their backstory.  As a fan of H.P. Lovecraft, they fit pretty well with my play style.  A few years ago I built 1,000pts of Space Wolves for the Adepticon team tourney.  Since my 'Crons were all painted, and I'm a thrifty gamer, I put together another 850pts of Wolves for another tournament army.  With the changes in the new Necron codex, I went with the Wolves full time.  The theme of the army kinda changed, not for the worse, but it was different than what I wanted.

So wolves full time now!  I like the army, but I miss having something different.  And after playing them for a few years, I felt like I needed something new.  Something completely different was needed, so I could explore another facete of 40K through the hobby and gaming aspects.  Thus, I traded and made some smart purchases for a bunch of Eldar.  This blog is an attempt to keep me on track with the very large task of having a themed Eldar Corsair army ready for Adepticon 2013....
